Trees in Huay Nam Dang National Park Wildlife Sanctuary

Located in the North of Thailand, Huay Nam Dang National Park’s entrance is just after the village of Mae Sae on the road from Mae Taeng to Pai-Mae Hong Son, at the border with Myanmar.

Another access is through the Chiang Dao Wildlife Sanctuary and Muang Khong which gives access to Viang Haeng along the Thai-Myanmar border.

Most roads are all-terrain and feasible by all-terrain car or motorbike.

During the rainy season though, the jungle is more luscious hence more hazardous.

Among some literature, there would be twelve different registered hill-tribes in the Kingdom of Thailand.

The main or more commonly known hill tribes in Northern Thailand are the Lisu, Karen, Lahu, Akha, Mhong, Shan, Palong.

Quite pejoratively called Lisso, Kalian, Musseu, Icko, Meaw, Thai Yai and Palong.

In the North, most of these villagers are farmers and they deliver crops, grains, coffee, tea, cocoa, vegetables, fruits, herbs to the closest towns like Chiang Dao and/or Chiang Mai , most grow better at some altitude. They also produce for international markets, bought to exporting afar.

Delicious coffee is grown by Lisu and Karen villagers for more than 40 years.

Delicious coffee is produced from the grain to the expresso by Surachai at Chai Cafe in Chiang Dao, click here.
